Sale conditions of wood are specified by the regulation of Director – General of the Sate Forests.
Within the framework of the individual sale , the foresters try to meet the fast growing demand, because more and more people use wood in order to heat their houses. Contrary to general opinion, these are not only village people, even though they prevail among recipients. The growth of firewood demand is the result of occurrence of new housing estates built in the suburbs of large agglomerations, where houses are usually equipped in fireplace heating installations.
Firewood is not only the most ecological heat source, but also is much more attractive in respect of relation of price and electric efficiency, rather than cola, oil, gas or electric power.
In recent years, the Sate Forests increased the sale of firewood of one third – up to over 4 million cubic meters annually. Some of customers choose already prepared and cut into pieces wood, the others very willingly obtain it by themselves after arranging all details and fulfilling particular safety conditions, and after paying the fee; that concerns mainly so called "thinnings". Such a raw material is very cheap, that is why many people from village areas profit from such possibility.

Regionalna Dyrekcja Lasów Państwowych w Białymstoku informuje, że pojawiające się na stronach internetowych, m.in. na portalu Drewno.pl, wpisy mówiące o utracie przez RDLP w Białymstoku certyfikatu PEFC są całkowicie nieprawdziwe.
Regionalna Dyrekcja Lasów Państwowych w Białymstoku posiada certyfikat PEFC o numerze CSL/722/2017 ważny od 14 listopada 2017 roku do 13 listopada 2020 roku, obejmujący wszystkie nadleśnictwa działające na obszarze administracyjnym RDLP.
Rada PEFC w Genewie wyraziła zaniepokojenie sytuacją w Leśnym Kompleksie Promocyjnym (LKP) Puszcza Białowieska w kontekście postanowienia Trybunału Sprawiedliwości Unii Europejskiej. Jednocześnie zobowiązała UDT-CERT, jednostkę certyfikującą obecnie RDLP w Białymstoku, do przeprowadzenia analizy zaistniałej sytuacji. Analiza taka odbywa się w ramach audytu sprawdzającego i nie powoduje automatycznej utraty certyfikatu.
Należy zaznaczyć, że przeprowadzony w październiku 2017 roku audyt, był kolejnym audytem gospodarki leśnej w systemie PEFC prowadzonym na terenie nadleśnictw LKP Puszcza Białowieska. Poprzedni, przeprowadzony w październiku 2016 roku, przez inny podmiot certyfikujący (SGS Polska), również nie wykazał niezgodności z kryteriami PEFC.
Obecnie na terenie lasów zarządzanych przez Nadleśnictwa Białowieża, Browsk, Hajnówka wchodzących w skład Leśnego Kompleksu Promocyjnego Puszcza Białowieska prowadzone są prace związane jedynie z zachowaniem bezpieczeństwa publicznego zgodne z postanowieniem Trybunału Sprawiedliwości Unii Europejskiej.
